Wayne County s chief circuit judge ruled Thursday that Taylor Mayor Rick Sollars isn t eligible to appear on the Aug. 3 ballot because of his failure to file several campaign finance reports and pay fines prior to filing for reelection.
Chief Judge Timothy Kenny sided with the earlier findings of Taylor City Clerk Cynthia Bower, agreeing she made the right call last month when she declared that Sollars, who is under federal indictment, is ineligible. Kenny also dissolved a temporary restraining order he issued earlier this month that forced Taylor s Election Commission to certify Sollars for the ballot until he could hold a hearing.

New Detroit plan would help 31,000 residents avoid foreclosure
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced the Pay as you stay plan on Wednesday. The housing plan is intended to help residents avoid tax foreclosure by easing the financial burden on the city s lowest earners. About 31,000 residents could help avoid foreclosure with the aid of the plan, which would eliminate all interest, penalties and fees and the only balance due would be back taxes or 10 percent of the home s value. The plan still needs approval by the state legislature.
DETROIT - A judge’s recent ruling will stop Wayne County foreclosures this year on occupied homes and occupied commercial properties.
Detroit Electrical problems persist Wednesday throughout the Third Judicial Court system s offices downtown following an outage at the Penobscot Building where computer and power servers for the court system are located.
The power outage was first reported Tuesday and interrupted telephone connections for the Third Circuit Court system. The problem has halted Zoom capabilities with some of the court s facilities, officials said.
As of Wednesday, phone service remains limited for court offices at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, Frank Murphy Hall of Justice and the Lincoln Hall of Justice. Court officials are urging those with scheduled court proceedings Wednesday to call their assigned courtroom for further instructions or log on to the court s website at www.3rdcc.org.
Donald Trump s fraud claims died in court, but the myth of stolen elections lives on
If anything, Donald Trump has given the movement to limit ballot access new momentum while becoming the singular, charismatic leader it never had. New York Times December 28, 2020 / 07:49 AM IST
President Donald Trump’s baseless and desperate claims of a stolen election over the last seven weeks the most aggressive promotion of “voter fraud” in American history failed to get any traction in courts across seven states, or come anywhere close to reversing the loss he suffered to Joe Biden.
But the effort has led to at least one unexpected and profoundly different result: A thorough debunking of the sorts of voter fraud claims that Republicans have used to roll back voting rights for the better part of the young century.
