Iowa Troopers return from U-S southern border duty

By Sue Danielson Jul 28, 2021 (Des Moines, IA) Iowa State Patrol Troopers are back home after assisting law enforcement at the southern U.S. border. More than two dozen troopers spent two weeks helping authorities in Texas deal with a border migration surge. The troopers were sent to the Del Rio area of Texas. Texas Governor Greg Abbot had asked states to officers to help slow crime in the wake of a surge in illegal border crossings this year. The Iowa officers served in support roles, alongside Texas officers – giving them backup while on patrols and aiding with humanitarian needs at border crossings. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says the Iowa troopers provided tactical support and back-up, and confiscated illegal guns, drugs, and thwarted human traffickers.

NEWS 7 28 21: More Heat, C19 Increases, Shooting Investigation, Border Patrol Concerns, and More

SPM NEWS 7.28.21 The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory today for the entire state of Iowa, most of South Dakota and a large portion of Nebraska. The heat advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. for Siouxland with a heat index near 110. Governors from all three Siouxland States slam the CDC’s announcement on Tuesday urging both vaccinated and nonvaccinated people to wear masks due to a surge of cases of COVID-19. The CDC also advises children in schools wear masks this fall. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem tweeted “If you are worried about the virus, you’re free to get vaccinated, wear a mask, or stay home. However, we won’t be mandating anything. And the CDC’s inconsistency doesn’t help the American People.”
