Three Hendrix College Students Honored by Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas

3, 2021) Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas (PRA) has announced the winners of its
2021 statewide Jeanie Dolan Carter Memorial Collegiate Poetry Contest, and
three Hendrix College students are among the honorees: Flannery Hirrel ’22 of
Little Rock, Arkansas, Annemarie Bennett ’22 of Hurst, Texas, and Zoie Keys ’24
of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Because of the
pandemic, instead of live readings, the winners shared recordings for the
virtual Dr. Lily Peter Spring Celebration, an annual PRA event. The statewide
contest has been sponsored annually for the last five years by the recently
deceased Mr. Roger Carter of Hot Springs in memorial to his wife, Jeanie. Dr. ....

The Poetry Society of Texas has scheduled its 100th Anniversary Celebration this year, and the organization boasts that one of its founding members was a one-time Stephenville resident Miss Jewel Wurtzbaugh.
Wurtzbaugh was later an English professor at Oklahoma University in Norman.
Founded on Nov. 5, 1921, in Texas, the seven Charter Members were Hilton Ross Greer of Dallas, Therese Lindsey of Tyler, Whitney Montgomery of Eureka, Karle Wilson Baker of Nacogdoches, Clyde Walter Hill of Dallas, Louella Styles Vincent of Dallas, and Jewell Wurtzbaugh of Stephenville, states an anniversary announcement from the organization. ....

KB Ballentine with her poem March was the winner of the February writing contest by the Chattanooga Writers Guild. The theme was Hope, and the judge was Finn Bille.
There were seven entries.
Edge of the Echo is scheduled to launch Ms. Ballentine’s seventh collection in the Spring of 2021 with Iris Press. Her earlier books can be found on Blue Light Press, Middle Creek Publishing and Celtic Cat Publishing. She is published in Crab Orchard Review, Haight-Ashbury Literary Journal, and other fine presses. Her work also appears in anthologies, including In Plein Air (2017) and Carrying the Branch: Poets in Search of Peace (2017). ....
