SANTA FE Until Wednesday, the website for the State Auditor’s Office displayed personal social-media messages from State Auditor Brian Colón â including an invitation to participate in campaign events to support his run for attorney general.
The messages were contained in a widget that showed the latest tweets or Facebook posts by Colón, a Democrat.
The Auditor’s Office removed the social-media stream from the page Wednesday after being contacted by the Journal.
“Let me be very clear,” Colón said. “It’s 100% inappropriate, and we have already taken it down.”

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas’ handling of a now-settled case involving a large solar installation company has spurred a request from a state lawmaker for an investigation.
Rep. Daymon Ely is asking State Auditor Brian Colón, who is a friend of Balderas, to look into why the attorney general agreed to seal all documents in the case against Vivint Solar Inc. Ely also wants to know why Balderas didn’t pursue any specific restitution for thousands of customers as part of the settlement reached last fall.

New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas may have violated state fraud and anti-corruption laws by hiring the firm of an old law school friend to work on several lucrative cases for the state, according to a complaint filed with the state auditor in mid-July.
The five environmental and civic groups behind the complaint are asking State Auditor Brian Colón to investigate the potential violations as well as alleged “overbilling and duplicative billing” by a firm where Balderas’ longtime friend Marcus Rael is a partner. The attorney general is required to sign off on hires and billing.
