Biden should call for Article I immigration courts

© istock It’s no secret that Americans are deeply divided over immigration. For both Democrats and Republicans, beliefs about immigration have become sacred, leaving little room for compromise.  But one thing many Americans share, regardless of political affiliation, is pride in our nation’s court system and the belief that U.S. courts should be a model of fair and impartial justice to the rest of the world. From that shared principle, there is one urgently needed aspect of immigration law reform that deserves bipartisan support: creation of independent, Article I immigration courts. What we now call the immigration courts are not actually courts at all, at least not in the usual sense of the word. Rather than being part of the federal judiciary, the immigration courts are an office of the Department of Justice (DOJ). Immigration judges are actually lawyers who work for the attorney general who can decide on any immigration case, at any time. This power was exploited by the

Project MUSE - Refuge Must Be Given

summary Refuge Must Be Given details the evolution of Eleanor Roosevelt from someone who harbored negative impressions of Jews to become a leading Gentile champion of Israel in the United States. The book explores, for the first time, Roosevelt’s partnership with the Quaker leader Clarence Pickett in seeking to admit more refugees into the United States, and her relationship with Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles, who was sympathetic to the victims of Nazi persecution yet defended a visa process that failed both Jewish and non-Jewish refugees. After the war, as a member of the American delegation to the United Nations, Eleanor Roosevelt slowly came to the conclusion that the partition of Palestine was the only solution both for the Jews in the displaced persons camps in Europe, and for the conflict between the Arabs and the Jews. When Israel became a state, she became deeply involved in supporting the work of Youth Aliyah and Hadassah, its American sponsor, in bringin

The Argentia Conference: How World War II's Grand Alliance Was Formed

The Allies eventually prevailed over the Axis powers. Here s What You Need to Know: The Allies agreed to mobilize all their resources against the Axis powers and to make no separate peace. A British battleship and an American cruiser converged secretly in a remote bay on the Newfoundland coast early in August 1941. There, during a few days, one of the most momentous meetings of the 20th century would bring forth a historic resolution that would guide the Allies to victory in World War II and would seek to pave the way for eventual global unity. On Saturday, August 2, President Franklin D. Roosevelt jauntily informed hovering reporters that he was going on a fishing trip. He boarded the presidential train at Union Station in Washington, D.C., and rode northward. The following day, at the Navy Submarine Base in New London, Conn., Roosevelt was lifted aboard the 165-foot presidential yacht,

Coleus You Can e mail me at Coleus 3 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, 4 as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him. All Christian should argue for the integrity of every individual person made in the image of God, and that the gospel, if we re going to be faithful to that gospel and faithful to biblical anthropology, requires us to be engaged as advocates for the sanctity of human life wherever we encounter it.
