A magnitude 3.9 earthquake rattled the Bay Area Monday evening.
The quake hit the region around 6:30 p.m. with an epicenter in Ashland, a community near San Leandro. The temblor was initially rated a 4.2 and was downgraded.
Michael Leonor, lead server at Angry Fish, was in the middle of dinner service when the tables and plates began rumbling.
“We were alarmed,” Leonor said when reached by phone shortly after.
Luckily, he said, none of the Japanese restaurant’s sushi chefs chopped their fingers during the brief quake and dinner service resumed as usual.
Epicenter 9.3 miles northwest of Lake Pillsbury, CA

About the data
The Quake Tracker displays quakes from the past 30 days with magnitudes above 3.0 in Northern California, 4.0 in Southern California, 5.0 in the United States, and 7.0 anywhere in the world. Quakes below magnitude 3.0 are often not felt and do not appear on this map.
Intensity contours show how strongly a quake was felt and are displayed on the Quake Tracker when available. Rather than a gauge of pure shaking, intensity takes into account the effects on people and damage to infrastructure. The measure is designated using Roman numerals.
