Overstated rates force buyers to leave markets without sacrificial animals
July 19, 2021
Rawalpindi : With only two days left for the Eid-ul-Azha, the buyers flocking cattle markets in Rawalpindi are left with little option, but to return home without buying sacrificial animals.
Residents, who arrived here at Bhatta Chowk sale point along with their jubilant children, told this agency on Sunday that the animal sellers were demanding exorbitant prices which were beyond their purchasing power.
Ghais Haider, a buyer at the market, said last year he purchased a small goat of 25 kilograms against Rs30,000, but now the same animal was being sold at up to Rs60,000 which showed that the rate of sacrificial animal had gone up by 100 per cent.

Rawalpindi : The Metropolitan Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR) and Town Municipal Administrations (TMAs) are facing difficulties in all money related matters as banks refused to cash their cheques without house permission.
This situation ran fear of stoppage of salaries among the MCR staff before Eidul Azha.
The LHC (Rawalpindi Bench) had given stay orders on all matters and directed Punjab Chief Secretary, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Deputy Commissioner and MCR chief officer to appear in person in the court on July 14, 2021.
The Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Naseem Khan said that all activities after March 25 were illegal and unconstitutional, as the Supreme Court had ordered to restore local body system on March 25. We have filed contempt of court writ against Punjab government in this regard, he said. The MCR and other town municipal administrations in the province could not do anything without the house permissio

Islamabad : The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has set up three markets in the outskirts of the federal capital to allow sale and purchase of sacrificial animals ahead of Eidul Azha.
The sale points were established in suburban areas including Bhara Kahu, Taramri, and Tarnol in compliance with the anti-coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the district administration to curb the virus spread, MCI Administrator Syeda Shafaq Hashmi told this agency.
“It is the responsibility of MCI to provide opportunity to citizens of Islamabad to perform their religious duties along with safety measures,” she noted.

Rawalpindi : While blaming the Punjab government for committing contempt of the court, the elected local bodies representatives headed by Mayor Sardar Naseem Khan Thursday broke the locks of the Metropolitan Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR) office and took over the charge with force.
The sitting government of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) dissolved local governments in the federal capital, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in February this year and despite a detailed judgment on the restoration of local government in Punjab by the Supreme Court two days back, no step has been taken to restore it.
The situation at MCR turned ugly when Mayor Sardar Naseem Khan along with elected representatives of the local body from the treasury and opposition benches reached the office of MCR to take over the charge. However, they were denied entry by the staff of MCR that cited receiving no orders whatsoever from the Punjab government regarding restoration of local government.
