He was a graduate of the Institute of Public Education in Tashkent (1925) and the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (1928-1929). He started his acting career at the Drama Theater in Kzyl-Orda and then worked at the Abai Kazakh State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet (1949-1952; 1956-1959). Kurmanbek Dzhandarbekov is considered one of the founders of the Kazakh national professional theater. He also greatly contributed to the revival of the Kazakh dance art. He passed away in 1973.
