The Dalton School, an elite private prep school in New Yorkâs Upper East Side, is experiencing something of a moral panic, and not about whether or not to have spring sports during Covid-19. One of NYC’s poshest private schools is in an uproar over an anti-racist manifesto signed by dozens of faculty members with a sweeping list of demands.
The Dalton School which boasts stars Anderson Cooper, Christian Slater and Claire Danes as alumni is wrestling with eight pages of “proposals” to overhaul the staffing, curriculum and treatment of black students.
Yearly tuition for grades K-12 at the Upper East Side institution is $54,180 a year.
The proposals first reported this week by The Naked Dollar blog grew out of the George Floyd police-brutality protests and long-simmering student complaints of racism at the prestigious school.

A former alumnus of the posh New York private school that made headlines this week over an anti-racism manifesto told Fox News that the school had been indoctrinating its students with a progressive agenda well before it was mainstream and that the institution offers a glimpse of where public schools might be heading.
The manifesto was signed by dozens of faculty members of the Dalton School. It made a list of sweeping proposals to overhaul the curriculum and staff in order to better promote diversity and social justice.

Faculty members of the exclusive Dalton School in New York City have issued an eight-page anti-racism manifesto, the demands of which include sweeping changes in personnel, academic curriculum, and how black students are to be treated differently in discipline matters and assessing academic performance.
The document includes statements that direct all administrators, faculty, and parent volunteers to “undergo yearly anti-racist training,” and that demand all of Dalton’s administrators and staff produce “public anti-racism statements.”
Scott Johnston, who writes the Naked Dollar blog, first reported on what appear to be the manifesto’s demands as made by many on the faculty at the K-12 school located on the Upper East Side.
