Hyundai Motor Company Unveils the “Ioniq 5”
The Hyundai Motor Company has decided to set the price for the long-range version (72.6 kWh) of the “Ioniq 5” to be between $46,800 (52 million KRW) and $47,300 (52.5 million KRW). Considering an individual consumption tax benefit of up to $2,700 (3 million KRW) and a government subsidy of $10,800 (12 million KRW) (based on the Seoul Special City), one can actually purchase the version for about $33,300 (37 million KRW).
By deciding on a price lower than the price of Tesla’s most popular model “Model 3 Standard Range Plus ($49,300 (54.79 million KRW)), it will be interesting to see whether the company is able to hold back the current Tesla frenzy in South Korea.
South Korean Government and Hyundai Motor Company Planning to Install 190 Ultra-Fast Chargers throughout South Korea
Ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are set to be installed throughout South Korea this year. An ultra-fast EV charger is able provide up to 350 kilowatts of electricity in just one hour. A normal EV can add about 150 kilometers of range with just five minutes of charging. These chargers are expected to greatly improve use of electric vehicles in South Korea.
According to the South Korean government and the industry on Monday, 190 ultra-fast chargers are expected to be installed at about 30 different places including highway rest stops and major spots within different cities. Hyundai Motor Company will install 120 chargers at about 20 places while the Ministry of Environment will install 70 chargers at about 30 places.
