Mon, 07/19/2021 - 20:08 RCN Newsdesk Frank Peluso, Jr. was named chief of the Newport fire department at Monday night s city commission meeting. Peluso, Jr. is the son of City Commissioner Frank Peluso, Sr. and second-cousin of City Commissioner and former mayor Jerry Peluso. Both recused themselves from the vote. He is a veteran of the fire department, rising to the rank of captain during his twenty-year career. The Newport native replaces Chief Bill Darrin, who is retiring. I am excited, humbled and optimistic about being named fire chief of a department that I love in a city that I love, Chief Peluso said. This is a city and a department rich in history, and I look forward to continuing the legacy of success, professionalism and service to the community that the Newport Fire Department is known for. ....

For five consecutive years, these three groups have partnered to help local baseball and softball teams in Northern Kentucky. Nearly a year into the COVID-19 pandemic which forced the cancellation of the entire 2020 spring season for Northern Kentucky student-athletes, the need for equipment and resources is greater now as teams prepare for the ’21 season, and these organizations responded in a big way. Thanks to the expertise of Pitch In For Baseball & Softball (PIFBS), the $45,000 went much further, providing a remarkable 2,320 pieces of equipment to 33 individual teams.
