At this time each year, rivers and ponds in western Newfoundland are usually awash with the spring runoff, meaning higher water levels and steady power generation for the Deer Lake hydroelectric station. This year is different: levels are at their lowest since the 1960s.

The University of Regina has appointed a new president and vice-chancellor after a detailed, year-long search to find the perfect candidate.
A virtual news conference on Monday revealed that Jeff Keshen will become the university’s eighth president when he assumes the role on July 1. He will guide the university through its 50th anniversary in 2024, and the re-opening of Darke Hall.

“This was not an easy undertaking. It was a lengthy and rigorous process, but we knew that the right people would find the right person,” said Roger Brandvold, chair of the board of governors at the University of Regina.

The University of Regina has a new President and Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Jeff Keshen is the current Vice-President of Memorial University’s Grenfell campus, with previous experience at Mount Royal University in Calgary.
Dr. Keshen is a current colleague of former U of R President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vianne Timmons, who left Regina for Memorial University back in 2019.
Dr. Timmons wished Dr. Keshen well-wishes over Twitter on Monday.
