World Alpine skiing gold medallist Brem announces retirement Tuesday, 6 April 2021
Former world team champion Eva-Maria Brem of Austria has announced her retirement from Alpine skiing at the age of 32.
Brem said now is the time for me to do something new after 14 years on the International Ski Federation World Cup circuit.
The Austrian won the gold medal in the team event at the 2015 World Championships alongside compatriots Nicole Hosp, Michaela Kirchgasser, Marcel Hirscher, Christoph Nösig and Philipp Schörghofer.
Brem s individual successes include claiming the giant slalom crystal globe in the 2015-2016 World Cup season.
She won three World Cup races, the last of which came in the giant slalom in Jasná in Slovakia in March 2016.
Katharina Liensberger ended Austria s six-year wait for a women s World Cup slalom victory on Saturday, doing so by overtaking American Mikaela Shiffrin.

Liensberger overtakes Shiffrin to end 6-year Austrian drought
ÅRE, Sweden – Katharina Liensberger ended Austria’s six-year wait for a women’s World Cup slalom victory on Saturday.
In the last race before the World Cup Finals, Liensberger overtook first-run leader Mikaela Shiffrin with a free-flowing final run, beating the American by 0.72 seconds.
“I felt like flying, it was a flight from top to bottom,” Liensberger said. “I just gave it all. That’s really amazing. If there’s something you love and you put all your energy in it, you can really achieve it.”
Shiffrin, who turned 26 on Saturday, was chasing her 70th career win. She led Liensberger by 0.19 after the opening run, but had lost her advantage by the second split of her final run.
