KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 25): The digital economy s contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) will easily reach 20% by year-end from 19.1% in the current Covid-19 pandemic environment, said Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
Business digital adoption director Muhundhan Kamarapullai said its contribution to the GDP had been already quite significant even prior to the pandemic at over 18% and now it had moved up to 19.1%.
“From a digital economy standpoint, we have gained quite a bit in terms of how the acceleration of work has been done in the country.
“From an economic perspective, the acceleration has been tremendous in some areas such as e-commerce and logistics. Many of these areas have a high demand at present due to the digital demand,” he said during a webinar organised by Cyberview Sdn Bhd titled “Surviving a Pandemic: What It Means to Digitally Transform Your Business” today.

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 The government finally announced yesterday the members of the Special Independent Emergency Committee 2021 (SIEC) that will advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong when it would be feasible to lift the Emergency ahead of its scheduled end on August 1.
KUALA LUMPUR: The RM85.5mil allocation for Jabatan Komunikasi Komuniti (JKom) under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry has been reduced to RM40.5mil.
This means RM45mil less for JKom, which was formerly known as the Special Affairs Department (Jasa), announced Deputy Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri, who tabled a motion to reduce the allocation to RM40.5mil, which will be for the 500 contract staff under JKom.
Prior to the allocation for JKom, there were debates between MPs from both sides of the political divide, with government coalition MPs arguing in support of the controversial government department.
According to Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (PN-Pasir Putih), it was necessary to have JKom because the department will ensure that Malaysians understand the government s agenda.
