National’s Louise Upston said the number of people waiting for emergency housing continues to increase.
Specialist housing providers are being asked to help ease the pressure on hundreds of people waiting desperately to get into emergency housing. National’s social development spokeswoman Louise Upston said that in her Taupō electorate, there was no emergency housing available in Cambridge. “It means families experiencing violence in the home have nowhere to go, or they are moved into a motel because there is no emergency housing available. “They end up out of the district, away from schools and their support network.”
