Two immigrant rights groups slammed the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency for conducting deportation flights to Jamaica and Haiti.
According to the Haitian Bridge Alliance and the UndocuBlack Network, a deportation flight to Jamaica took place on Jan. 28. A second deportation flight to Haiti took place Monday. The deportations are another in a long history of international abuses by immigration authorities against Black men, women, children, and families.
Writer Jake Johnson tweeted Monday that 102 immigrants were on the flight to Haiti and a second flight left Virginia Tuesday morning. Johnson added that Biden’s ban on deportations would not have kept those on Monday’s flight in the U.S.

Federal Court Freezes 100-Day Deportation Pause
On January 26, 2021, a federal judge in Texas, following a challenge by the Texas State Attorney General’s Office, issued a 14-day nationwide temporary restraining order blocking the enforcement of President Biden’s 100-day pause on most deportations as part of his many executive actions regarding immigration.
U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton stated in his ruling that the Biden administration “had failed to provide any concrete, reasonable justification for a 100-day pause on deportations,” and ordered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to “maintain[] the status quo as it existed” prior to the issuance of the 100-day pause memorandum.

(Photo : Jeff Fusco/Getty Images) Economic stimulus checks are prepared for printing at the Philadelphia Financial Center May 8, 2008 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
President Joe Biden said on Monday that he is willing to adjust the income thresholds for his proposed $1,400 stimulus check.
Adjusting the thresholds was one of the key demands among moderate senators when it comes to Biden s stimulus check plan.
In adjusting the stimulus check threshold, high-earning Americans who are less affected by the economic impact of COVID-19 would not qualify for the payment, noted Newsweek.
Biden recognized that some people are doubtful about the current scheme of stimulus check thresholds, and he was open to negotiate those things, reported Business Insider.
