Municipalities are allowed to decline the service as long as they develop their own mosquito control program, which must be submitted to the state for approval. Board of Health Chair Barbara Craddock said no alternate plan has been devised yet, but one is due by May 15. Selectboard Chair Dan Keller said during Wednesday’s meeting that he has no interest in having residents and animals subjected to chemical spraying.

Wendell had entered into an inter-municipal agreement with Leverett for that town to provide its policing services starting in October, but the 90-day agreement to try out that concept is coming to an end on Jan. 14. This extension will give the parties ample time to discuss a long-term contract. July 1 marks the beginning of the next fiscal year.
