Stocksfield Ian Warburton Stocksfield Retired Men’s Association will meet on Zoom on Thursday 15 April, commencing at 11am. Peter Jackson, Chairman of the Nenthead Mines Conservation Society and an expert in his field, will be talking about Mining in the North Pennines. Nenthead Mines is a fascinating and historic place at Nenthead, near Alston. This remote valley is covered by remains from the lead and zinc mining industry of the North Pennines, including mine entrances, watercourses, dressing-floors and buildings. The site is famous for its geology and is notable for rare lichens and plants growing on the metal-rich mine dumps. Most of the valley is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. By Herbie Newall Humshaugh came together last Wednesday to celebrate the life of Jodi Walsham. Those unable to attend St Peter’s due to Covid restrictions joined online to remember a much-loved young woman who now rests forever in the heart of our village. A wonderful tribute bravely given by Jayne recalled a talented and caring daughter who achieved so much and touched so many in her short life. Jodi’s love of travel took her round the world, and wherever she went her free and lively spirit made her a ray of sunshine and a friend to many. Jayne’s words were echoed in a moving eulogy by John McCollum, who reflected how Jodi’s theatrical talents, first seen at school and theatre group, led her to study at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, before going on to set up a theatre company for young Liverpudlians.
