NORTHAMPTON Two new candidates have emerged in the election for School Committee, but it remains unclear if there will be enough people to fill the nine-member committee after November.
Gwen Agna, the longtime principal of Jackson Street Elementary School who retired last year, has announced her candidacy, while Longmeadow Public Schools teacher Aline Davis has pulled nomination papers, according to the city clerk’s office.
Agna and Davis are running for the committee’s two at-large seats, while at-large member Roni Gold has taken out nomination papers to seek a second term. If all three candidates, or more, are certified for the Nov. 2 ballot, the two with the most votes will win the seats.

NORTHAMPTON – A sixth candidate has announced plans to run for the Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School board of trustees, setting up a potentially historic challenge for the board’s three elected seats.
All three incumbents are running for reelection against three challengers, and if all are certified for the ballot, it will represent the most candidates for the board in at least 22 years.
Richard Aquadro, 63, a third-generation commercial carpenter and a 20-year member of Smith Vocational’s carpentry advisory board, said Thursday that he pulled nomination papers this week.

Nominations sought for Person of the Year, Young Community Leader, Frances Crowe awards

NORTHAMPTON It’s awards season at the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
In partnership with the United Way of Hampshire County, the Gazette is now accepting nominations for its three annual awards: the Person of the Year award, Young Community Leader award and the second annual Frances Crowe award.
The Person of the Year award honors a Hampshire County resident who has gone above and beyond to make the Pioneer Valley a better place. The Young Community Leader Award recognizes a county resident between the ages of 15 and 30 who has contributed through community involvement and volunteerism.
