Gwen Agna, the longtime principal of Jackson Street Elementary School who retired last year, has announced her candidacy, while Longmeadow Public Schools teacher Aline Davis has pulled nomination papers, according to the city clerk’s office. Agna and Davis are running for the committee’s two at-large seats, while at-large member Roni Gold has taken out nomination papers to seek a second term. If all three candidates, or more, are certified for the Nov. 2 ballot, the two with the most votes will win the seats.

In partnership with the United Way of Hampshire County, the Gazette is now accepting nominations for its three annual awards: the Person of the Year award, Young Community Leader award and the second annual Frances Crowe award. The Person of the Year award honors a Hampshire County resident who has gone above and beyond to make the Pioneer Valley a better place. The Young Community Leader Award recognizes a county resident between the ages of 15 and 30 who has contributed through community involvement and volunteerism.
