The Brockville Fire Department, working closely with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) and the Hawkins Gignac Foundation, is launching a community awareness campaign around carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning risks and the actions residents can take to protect themselves and their families.

She’s intelligent and hard-working and those qualities are being recognized by the Horatio Alger Association of Canada, who have awarded Brockville Collegiate Institute student Samantha Sportel a $5,000 scholarship towards her post-secondary education.
“The Horatio Alger Association of Canada is a charitable organization dedicated to the simple but powerful belief that hard work, honesty and determination can conquer all obstacles,” association officials said in announcing the recipients.

This year the association awarded 170 scholarships to deserving students across the country, but only one in Brockville.
