The new moratorium could help keep millions in their homes as the coronavirusâ delta variant has spread and states have been slow to release federal rental aid. It would temporarily halt evictions in counties with âsubstantial and high levelsâ of virus transmissions and would cover areas where 90% of the U.S. population lives.

The most dangerous period of the extended alert will be from Monday evening into Tuesday morning, when a burst of strong winds from the Pacific Ocean is expected to reach hilly areas, the Napa County Office of Emergency Services said in a Nixle alert posted shortly before 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
