Tendring teachers planning to stage three day strike


ANGRY teachers and school staff are planning to stage a strike in protest of suspected budget cuts and job losses.
Members of the National Education Union who work at Tendring Technology College will down tools for three days starting on Tuesday.
They will form a picket line outside the sixth form’s Frinton campus, in Rochford Way.
The proposed strike is in response to a staffing restructure planned by bosses at the Academy Enterprise Trust, which runs the college.
The union’s members believe the shake-up will result in cuts to teaching and support staff jobs from September.
They say they have been left with no choice but to declare the protest after many meetings with representatives from the trust failed to resolve the dispute. ....

Students at Strode College in Street celebrated at annual awards


Strode College held their awards this month, nominating students who completed their courses last year.
There were 23 categories in the awards, based on outstanding performance on courses and exceptional personal qualities.
Most of those who received awards had completed A Levels and vocational qualifications last year, but there were also awards for Higher Education Student of the Year, Adult Student of the Year, Apprentice of the Year, the Rachael House Award for Skills for Life and Success Against the Odds.
Katy Quinn, principal and CEO of the college in Street, said: “Whilst unfortunately unable to hold our usual annual awards ceremony due to the pandemic, we still wanted to celebrate the incredible hard work and achievements of all our students. ....

Students at a Lowestoft high school were all smiles after receiving a heart-warming response to letters they had penned to high-profile royal and political figures across Europe.
The Year 7 students at Ormiston Denes Academy had written to royal families across Europe and made Christmas cards as a way of practicing and improving their skills during language lessons.
On returning to the academy on Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft after lockdown, the students were delighted to have received numerous replies - receiving cards and letters from the royal families of Belgium, Luxembourg, Monaco and Liechtenstein as well as from the French President, Emmanuel Macron. ....
