Osakis students urged to use free breakfast program

About 200 of the 800 students take advantage of the free program. 4:56 pm, Oct. 14, 2020 × Students in the Osakis School District are being encouraged to participate in the free breakfast program. Superintendent Randy Bergquist told School Board members Monday night at their regular meeting that there could be more participation in the program. There are roughly 800 students in the district and about 200 take advantage of the free program. At the elementary level, the district will be starting a pilot program by bringing the food to the classrooms to try and get more participation. At the high school level, the food cart is brought out in the mornings as the students come into the school as a reminder of the free breakfast.

City Council member de la Torre refuses to step down from School Board Dec. 18, 2020 at 1:34 pm Oscar de la Torre Conflict broke out in a Dec. 17 School Board meeting when City Council member Oscar de la Torre attempted to continue serving as a Board member and was told he could only speak as a member of the public.  The District believes that per Government Code Section 1099, which prohibits elected officials from holding “incompatible offices”, de la Torre forfeited his Board position when he assumed a seat on City Council on Dec. 8. De la Torre disagrees and said it is up to a judge and not the District to decide whether the positions are incompatible.
