Yale’s campus is always evolving to serve the university’s mission. Buildings go up, come down, and transform even during the pandemic. Yale soon will introduce several impressive new spaces for thinking, studying, relaxing, and finding inspiration.
Four major construction projects have wrapped up in the past year, despite a two-month pause at the pandemic’s onset, and a fifth project, a new field house at the university’s athletic complex in New Haven’s Westville neighborhood, is slated for completion in May. Other projects are now in progress.

Laurie Santos
Laurie Santos, whose contributions to psychology and the science of well-being will have an enduring positive impact on people around the world, has been appointed the Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon Professor of Psychology. Her appointment was effective Feb. 20.
A member of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Santos has emerged as a leading expert on the origins of human cognition and the cognitive biases that impede better choices. The director of Yale’s Comparative Cognition Lab and the Canine Cognition Center, her research has been widely featured in the news media, including The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Economist. The Good Life Center reopens March 15, 2021 on News
BROOKSVILLE The Good Life Center at Forest Farm in Brooksville, the historic final homestead of back-to-the-landers Helen and Scott Nearing, will reopen to visitors for the 2021 season on Memorial Day with COVID-19 protocols in place. The homestead was closed in 2020.
The Good Life Center’s 2021 resident stewards are Jack Ott and Jesse Dritz of Peak Island, who will cultivate the organic gardens, lead tours of the hand-built structures and grounds and teach the Nearings’ simple living strategies to the public this summer season at Forest Farm.
Ott, a cheesemaker and farmer, is the son of a baker and a chef. Jesse Dritz, a Ph.D. candidate in the American and New England Studies program at Boston University, is a native of Maine who focuses her studies on Maine photography and the way that photographs shape our sense of place.
