LEWISTON In a room that buzzed with energy, the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce on Thursday introduced its new Explore + Discover guide to local business leaders.
“For us, this Explore + Discover guide the accompanying Discover LA name, what today’s breakfast is about is all linked to a clear economic growth strategy,” President and CEO Shanna Cox said. “Our regional round table put together the blueprint for economic growth, and the first strategy is to attract populations, specifically to support our workforce needs, and our future economic growth needs, to the region.”
The guide was developed to attract new visitors and residents to the area in conjunction with the revamp of the DiscoverLAMaine.com website, a site that was recently redesigned to digitally resemble the Explore + Discover guide.

COVID-19 pandemic grounds popular balloon festivals in N.H., Maine

An annual hot air balloon rally beloved by locals on the ground in Pittsfield, N.H., will be canceled this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, organizers said in a Facebook posting Tuesday.
âThe Suncook Valley Rotary Club has announced that it will be cancelling the 2021 Annual Hot Air Balloon Rally,â the club said in the posting.
The club said it normally begins planning and fund-raising for the extravaganza â which is usually held the first weekend of August â in late January or early February. This year, that wasnât feasible.
Fryeburg Fair will welcome back people and animals this year, Oct. 3-10
It is Maine s largest agricultural fair and typically draws about 225,000 people.

Maine’s largest agricultural fair was an online event last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fair, which typically attracts more than 225,000 people, will set any COVID restrictions based on the state’s guidance in the fall, said Bridget Mayo, assistant to the secretary.
