Eateries In Ministries Introduce Social Distancing

Restaurants, chop bars and eating joints within the Ministries enclave have introduced social distancing rule at the food courts to contain the spread of COVID-19. The eateries have expanded the eating areas and arranged chairs and tables at about one-meter interval, some, with supervisors ensuring compliance with the rule. A few operators, who spoke with the Ghana News Agency, said the initiative was to ensure the safety of clients and to avoid shutdowns or lock downs, which would have adverse impact on their businesses. Hajia Mama, Second in Charge, Railway Canteen at the Ministries, said the national figures were scary and the least they could do was to enforce the protocols to keep their businesses running.

Public labs directed not to charge sick patients for Covid-19 tests

705 The Ministry of Health (MoH) has decided that public laboratories should not charge sick patients for Covid-19 tests. In a letter dated January 27, 2021, signed by the Acting Chief Director of the MoH, Kwabena Boadu Oku-Afari and addressed to all COVID-19 testing laboratories, the MoH said all walk in requests such as ill health, contact tracing and exposure must be done free-of-charge using public health resources. The Ministry of Health has decided that Public Covid-19 testing laboratories providing walk-in services can charge only travellers for testing, it added. There have been concerns over the cost and access to testing amid a recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Ghana.

Dear Minister Zulu, all they want for Christmas is a fa...

Four-year-old Abigail stands clutching the bars of the gate at her Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) tears pouring down her tiny face as she watches her parents walk away. As the Centre Director picks her up and cuddles her, the tears become a muffled sob. The Director shakes her head imperceptibly.  “It’s the same every week”, she says, “it takes us all day to calm her down after her parents visit, a drive through the suburbs in the car to distract her and then a week of play therapy, and then they come back again, and she is inconsolable for another week.”
