TORONTO, May 18, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) More than 570 families, residents, staff and supporters registered to virtually fill the galleries of the Ontario Legislature for Question Period today. Thousands more watched on the Ontario Health Coalition’s Facebook livestream. They came to hear the Ford government answer their questions and demands for vital improvements to long-term care. However, Premier Ford and LTC Minister Merrilee Fullerton did not show up.
Through individual stories sent in by LTC families and staff, the Health Coalition asked the Opposition Parties to challenge Premier Ford to commit to fast-tracking improvements in staffing in the homes. TORONTO, May 05, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) Premier Doug Ford returned to the Legislature today after being unavailable to respond, even virtually, to the Long-Term Care Commission Report for days. His Minister of Long-Term Care belatedly allowed journalists to question her today. Still, there has been no apology or meaningful acknowledgement of the failures that allowed even facilitated the deaths of thousands in long-term care, reported the Ontario Health Coalition. The Ford government’s response has deeply offended and angered families, residents, care workers and their organizations.

TORONTO, April 30, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) Despite reams of promises and emotional press conferences vowing change, the Ford government has made a formal policy choice to delay any meaningful increase in LTC staffing and thus care by years (see staffing plan released Dec. 17). Mr. Ford has not reinstituted annual surprise inspections. Not one single LTC home owner has been fined for negligence and failure to provide care. None have lost their licenses. Ontario s record of fatalities in LTC ranks among the very worst in the world. The Ontario Health Coalition sees this as a deplorable moral failing.
