OLA Ambassador Program Looking to Bring the Box Game to More Girls and Women

Monday March 8th, 2021 3:15pm Women s box lacrosse doesn t get a lot of attention and doesn t have as many players taking part, but the Ontario Lacrosse Association has launched a program to try to help change that. The Ontario Girls Box Lacrosse Ambassador Program is being spearheaded by OLA VP of minor lacrosse Tanya Thompson and OLA Girls Box Lacrosse Director Rob Howey, but the driving force is the Ambassadors, girls and women who play, ref and coach the game and are sharing their experiences to help bring others into the fold. Thompson points out that it s easy for young lacrosse players in her Nepean area to look up to local players like her son Ty, who was selected in the NLL draft last year, or New York Riptide forward Jake Fox. But she says she s found that a lot of minor and intermediate players in the area didn t even know that there was an opportunity to keep playing the game at the senior level in the Ontario Women s Box Lacrosse League and the Arena Lacrosse League.

Two thousand doses of Moderna vaccine given at mass-vax clinic in Petersburg

PETERSBURG John and Natalie Hill arrived at Petersburg High School mid-morning Friday for their COVID-19 vaccination appointments. Despite the fact that hundreds of other residents from the area were also at the school for the mass-vaccination clinic, the Hopewell couple found their visit to be painless in more ways than one. Didn t feel a thing, John Hill, a Petersburg native, said. It went great, added Natalie Hill, also from Petersburg. Very efficient. For a whole day Friday, Petersburg High School was ground-zero for 2,000 residents of Petersburg, Hopewell, Dinwiddie and Prince George who signed up to receive their Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
