Solti Foundation US announces 2021 Career Assistance Awards 12/05/2021 The American Solti Foundation announced the young American conductors who have been selected as 2021 recipients of The Sir Georg Solti Career Assistance Award. They are, Assistance Award (in alphabetical order) are conductors: Nathaniel Efthimiou, founding Music Director of Orchestra Contempo, Assistant Conductor, Boston Civic Symphony, Assistant Director of Music at Boston’s historic Park Street Church and acting Assistant Conductor, Rhode Island Philharmonic; Kevin Fitzgerald, Assistant Conductor of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra, he is also the founder of the Michigan-based contemporary music ensemble ÆPEX Contemporary Performance;

Solti Foundation U.S. Board Chair Penny Van Horn and Elizabeth Buccheri, Artistic and Awards Committee Chair, today announced remotely from their respective homes the young American conductors who have been selected as 2021 recipients of The Sir Georg Solti Career Assistance Award. The 2020-21 season has been a time of joy and sadness. Our Foundation has lost a shining light, Lady Valerie Solti, who passed away earlier this season. Her committment to her late husband s legacy and joy in helping up and coming musicians in the conducting world made our Foundation a reality. We celebrate her and Sir Georg s lives as we announce fifteen Solti Career Assistance Awards, stated Ms. Van Horn.

Salina Central Band inducts KWU Music Chair to Hall of Fame

The Salina Journal Milt Allen, chair of the department of music at Kansas Wesleyan University, will be inducted to the Salina Central High School Band Hall of Fame. Allen’s upcoming induction accompanies numerous awards at local, state and national levels, including recognition by the United States Congress for Musical Excellence. He is a two-time high school Teacher of the Year, a Kansas Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist, and is listed in various Who’s Who publications. Other honors and distinctions include five awards from the Ohio State University School of Music, recognizing his teaching and service and selection as a Conducting Fellow for the Eastman Wind Ensemble’s 40th Anniversary. In 2008, Allen became the first civilian in the history of the United States Air Force to tour as a featured conductor (USAF Heritage of America Band) and received an Eastern Illinois University Achievement and Contribution Award.
