During a special meeting Thursday, city council discussed the possibility of the construction of a new facility to house the city’s law enforcement agency.
WEIRTON A proposal discussed by Weirton Council Thursday night could eventually see the city’s police department relocated into a new facility.
Legislation will be put forward for consideration, first by the city’s Finance Committee during its meeting next week, and then by the full council during its meeting March 8, to expend up to $50,000 on an engineering study for the proposed new headquarters for the Weirton Police Department.

A new mid-winter festival opens in Calgary on Thursday, intent on lifting spirits and heating up the city scene.
Called Chinook Blast, the festival will feature outdoor art, light installations, ice sculptures, firepits, walking tours and more an ideal reminder that winter can be more about celebration than hibernation.

WEIRTON Firefighters from up and down the Ohio Valley, along with police officers and other emergency responders came together with the friends and family of Brian Ritchie Wednesday night to remember the life of a man who dedicated himself to helping others.
Fire trucks lined Municipal Plaza in the city’s downtown, while a crowd gathered for a candlelight memorial. Ritchie, who was a 13-year member of the Weirton Fire Department, holding the rank of lieutenant, as well as an assistant chief with the Hooverson Heights Volunteer Fire Department, died Tuesday following a lengthy battle with COVID-19 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
