Killeen City Council is expected to vote on whether to enter into a contract with an Austin law firm to perform redistricting services for the city.
The matter will be discussed during a regularly scheduled council meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall, according to the agenda for the meeting.
A vote on the resolution was postponed last week until further clarification could be provided to some members of council.
The council is considering entering into an Interlocal Copperation Contract with Austin-based law firm Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP. to provide redistricting services for the cityâs voting districts. The agency will determine if Killeenâs voting districts are unbalanced during an initial assessment. If they are out of balance, the law firm will work with city officials and staff to redevelop a redistricting process that keeps it in compliance.
Killeen City Council narrowly OKs Danielle Singh as new assistant city manager
By a narrow 4-3 vote, the Killeen City Council voted Tuesday to approve Executive Director of Public Works Danielle Singh as the new assistant city manager.
Voting in favor of Singhâs appointment were Councilmembers Terry Clark, Steve Harris Debbie Nash-King and Ken Wilkerson.
Councilwoman Melissa Brown, Councilman Rick Williams and Councilwoman Shirley Fleming voted against the motion.
Singh will be filling the position that has been vacant since David Ellison retired in late October 2020.
Brown said it is not the councilâs job to approve someoneâs position because they like them and that there has been a breach of trust against the council, which had not been informed of the hire in advance by City Manager Kent Cagle.

The Killeen City Council will be considering appointing a new member to the council at a special meeting Tuesday.
The council unanimously approved the nomination of former Killeen City Councilman Terry Clark to the vacant District 3 council seat last week.
The District 3 seat has been vacant since Councilman Jim Kilpatrick died in January of COVID-19.
Also during the meeting, the council will be discussing impact fee calculations, receive a planning and zoning update and get updated on COVID-19 and the recent winter weather from City Manager Kent Cagle.
After the discussion items on the agenda, the council will go over the items for the March 9 meeting as well.
