Dallas City Council Runoff Races Get Ugly
Two City Council candidates have had tax liens placed on properties they own in the last decade, although there s more to the story in each case.

The campaigns for two Dallas City Council candidates are trying to put their respective opponents’ tax records in the spotlight heading into early voting for the June 5 runoff elections. And, well, here’s some spotlight. In addition, I’m going to try and shine it on some important context in both cases.
Have two candidates for City Council Gay Donnell Willis and Jesse Moreno at some point in the last decade had tax liens placed on property they own or owned because of tax issues? After talking to one candidate directly and to the other’s tax attorney, the short answer is “yes, but…” In each case, this is a very significant “but…” and a longer answer is required.

Ballots have been mailed to most Aspen residents who will elect their next mayor and fill two city council seats in the municipal election on Tuesday, March 2. There are eight candidates running for the two open council seats. Incumbent Mayor Torre is running for a second, two-year term and faces a single challenger, artist Lee Mulcahy.
The Aspen Times and Aspen Daily News recently held their signature “Squirm Night” virtually with both the Mayoral and City Council candidates on Grassroots TV. Each candidate gave a short opening statement and answered a few rapid-fire questions before diving into more in-depth topics ranging from affordable housing to climate change to COVID-19.

A longtime healthcare worker, Edwards is the coordinating manager of the pharmacy department at Kings County Hospital. She is also a founding board member of the Patchen Community Square Garden, president of the Patchen Community Alliance Association and served as vice president of the Patchen Avenue Block Association for 10 years.
Money raised: $9,275
Green is a retired sergeant with the NYPD, where he worked for 29 years. He lists ending gun violence, job creation for youth, improving city services and reform in law enforcement, public housing and education among his campaign s priorities.
Money raised: $295
Joyner worked for 10 years for the Family and Community Supporting Services, according to his LinkedIn. He is a self-described owner, CEO and president of his own company.
