AKRON, Ohio Federal prosecutors wrapped up their case Tuesday in the federal corruption trial of Cleveland Councilman Ken Johnson after nearly five days of testimony from city officials, Johnson s family members, an IRS special agent and others.
Johnson is accused of defrauding taxpayers through three schemes that prosecutors say netted him more than $150,000. He faces 15 theft-related charges and possibly years in prison if convicted.

But Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson and Police Chief Calvin Williams said the city was prepared to handle unrest had the trial ended with a different result, with Williams saying he had arranged to have enough officers available to deal with any situation. The city was quiet Tuesday, with a peaceful demonstration held downtown after the verdict. Also in Cleveland, City Councilman Ken Johnson has been suspended while he remains under a criminal indictment. And in other news, U.S. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, an Ohio Republican, is reintroducing a bipartisan bill that would let college athletes across the country be compensated for their names, images and likenesses.
