Cook County health workers strike to defend pay and conditions - Workers Revolutionary Party

Workers Revolutionary Party SEIU Local 73 strikers have been on strike against cuts to their pay and conditions since last Friday THOUSANDS of health workers in Cook County, Illinois, are continuing strike action against attacks on their pay and conditions. Meanwhile 100 Illinois librarians have formed a union in Maine in order to fight against jobs, funding and programme cuts. The Cook County health workers, represented by SEIU Local 73, began picketing multiple locations across the County last Friday as their strike for a fair contract began at 6am that morning. Last Thursday, Toni Preckwinkle’s negotiators walked out on bargaining and have refused to come back to the table.

Des Plaines gaming landscape to change

March 16, 2021 After filing plans with the City of Des Plaines and Illinois Gaming Board last month, on Monday night, Rivers Casino Des Plaines received the green light from the City Council for its proposed $87 million expansion. Construction could reportedly begin as early as this spring at the U.S. midwestern state‘s most lucrative casino but still needs regulatory approval from the Illinois Gaming Board. And while a vote has yet to be scheduled, Rivers spokesman Dennis Culloton said the project “is in front of them,” according to the Daily Herald newspaper. Project plans: Jointly owned by Louisville, Kentucky-based gambling giant Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN) and Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, if approved, the 10-year-old gambling venue will see a two-story addition built between the existing 140,363 sq ft casino building and the recently enlarged four-level parking garage located on the north side of the 20-acre Cook County property.

Des Plaines luxury car delivery driver beaten, cars stolen by group of thieves at Jidd Motors, police say

DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) Des Plaines police said a luxury car delivery driver was badly beaten by a group of four thieves, who then stole three cars, and it was all caught on video. Police said officers responded to the Jidd Motors dealership on Rand Road around 1 a.m. They found a man lying in a snow bank with injuries to his wrist and leg. The victim was taken to a local hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries. Video captured the entire incident, from initial break-in to quick and violent attack. It began when four men broke into the dealership at 1313 Rand Road up the street, stealing some laptops and office supplies, and moving into a huge warehouse. In the warehouse they try to steal several vehicles, but can t get any of them to work.
