U.S. Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton along with Congressmen Rick Crawford, French Hill, Steve Womack and Bruce Westerman announced the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded over $1.4 million in federal grants to airports and airfields in Arkansas to off-set costs and maintain jobs as a result of COVID-19 as well as provide for increased sanitization to combat the spread of pathogens at these facilities. The DOT, through the Federal Aviation Administration, is distributing the funds appropriated through the  Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act, which passed with the support of the entire Arkansas Congressional Delegation in December 2020.

Battery enclosures and windshields from SGL carbon SGL Carbon is making a $4.5 million investment in a new line for carbon fibre-based composites at its plant in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. 26th January 2021 SGL is investing in a new line for carbon fibre-based composites, following the award of a substantial contract for composite battery enclosures from a North American car manufacturer at the beginning of 2020. The new investment at the Arkadelphia plant is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2021. And has received funding from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC), the City of Arkadelphia and Clark County. “Composite battery enclosures meet the specific needs of the chassis for modern e-cars and our facility also produces a variety of carbon and glass fibre-reinforced products for a wide range of industrial applications within the automotive and aerospace industries as well as the energy sector,” said Steve Swanson, vice-president of operations at SGL

SGL Carbon ramps up production facility for composite e-mobility solutions

Photo Credit: SGL Carbon It was reported on Jan. 21 that SGL Carbon (Wiesbaden, Germany) is enhancing its operations in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, by introducing a new production processes for fiber-based composites, with the goal of ramping up carbon fiber composite production for e-mobility; this will include meeting expectations reflected in the substantial contract a North American automaker awarded SGL back in Jan. 2020 for composite battery enclosures. “Composite battery enclosures fit perfectly to the specific needs of modern e-car chassis. Thus, with the ongoing enhancement of our Arkadelphia operations, we also support the great trend towards more e-mobility in the U.S. In addition, our facility produces a variety of carbon and glass fiber-reinforced products for a wide range of industrial applications within the automotive and aerospace industries as well as the energy sector,” says Steve Swanson, VP of Operations at SGL Composites Inc.
