Danny Griffith can still recall the smell of the corned beef and cabbage cooking in the kitchen.
Griffith, the owner of J.W. Snack’s, was in the middle of preparing his traditional St. Patrick’s Day meal, consisting of 75 pounds of corned beef and cabbage for the Irish holiday. A few hours later, Governor Jared Polis announced the closure of restaurants statewide to dine-in services, and shut down local gyms the same day.
“I thought, gee, I hope we’re only shut down for a week or so,” Griffith said in a March 15 interview in the midst of preparing another St. Patrick’s Day meal. “We had 75 pounds of corned beef cooking, and had just bought groceries. All I knew was I had just bought $5,000 worth of groceries and I was told by the governor to close. I was a little upset. We had absolutely no heads up, no warning. They weren’t courteous at all.”

Despite the snow, residents came out to taste various chocolate configurations as part of the 15th annual Taste of Chocolate in Downtown Craig.
The event had ten businesses with different chocolatiers at each store. The $20 tickets for the event, gave customers the ability to vote on who had the best chocolate, with the votes tabulated up and the money going to the winning chocolatier.
One of the chocolatiers that participated was Kandee Dilldine, though she did not participate under her K S Kreations umbrella.
The event, which features local chocolatiers at the different businesses, runs from 4-8 p.m. Saturday
The businesses taking part in the 15th Annual Taste of Chocolate are the following: Prodigal Son’s Coffee House and Eatery, Kitchen A La More, K S Kreations, The Find, Downtown Books and Coffee, Moffat Mercantile, Northwest Pack & Ship, Cornerstone Realty, Kester Jewelry and the West Twin Cinema.
The event will not change as a result of COVID this year, said Tammy Villard, who owns Moffat Mercantile. The chocolate is individually packaged and only touched by the chocolatier before it is given to the customers.
