Collaborative entrepreneurial workspace in Downtown Cape, Codefi, has selected its finalists for their 1ST50K Startup Competition.
Finalists were selected from nearly 200 applications submitted around the world to pitch their concepts later this week.
“We are ecstatic about the number of and quality of teams that we’ll be bringing to town,” said Program Director Sarah Gant. “Now the real work begins of identifying the four companies and teams that fit best into our community, so we can go to work to help them thrive here.”
Winners will receive a $50,000 grant award and be located in Cape Girardeau as they accelerate the growth of their technology companies.

From construction, events and new business openings, there is a lot going on in Downtown Cape Girardeau. We spoke with Old Town Cape Executive Director Liz Haynes for an update. Some highlights include:
- The outdoor concert series Tunes at Twilight kicked off on May 14.
- The Cape Riverfront Market opened on May 1 and continues through the fall.
- The riverboats have returned to downtown.
- 21 new businesses open in 2020.
- The Broadway project (between Middle and Fountain Street on the North side of the street) is projected to be completed by year end. That will be home to four retail tenants on the first floor. Those include: Speck Pizza and Street Food, Brickwood Boutique, Kenny s Flippin Burgers and Sushi by Angel).

Old Town Cape s Tunes at Twilight outdoor music series returns on Friday, May 14 to Downtown Cape Girardeau. The event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Tunes is typically held at Iver s Square, next to the Common Pleas Courthouse but with construction underway near the site, Old Town Cape worked with Southeast Missouri State University and will hold the event at River Campus Park for both the spring and fall sessions in 2021.
This year s spring lineup is:
May 14 - Dennis Stroughmatt et L Esprit Creole
May 21 - Kitchen Table Tunes with Mila Sims, John Reimbold and Friends
May 28 - Holly Benton and the Kevins

Alyssa Phares, with Visit Cape, spoke with KRCU Public Radio about two events which will be held in Downtown Cape, on Sat. May 1st.
The first, and inaugural event is the Muddy River Marathon, which begins with the first group of runners at 7 a.m. on Mainstreet and runs throughout the city.
The second, and ongoing annual event now for over 10 years, is the Cape Riverfront Market. It offers fresh produce, locally raised meats, assorted baked goods, artisan crafts, and options for breakfast and lunch, and is open from 8 a.m. to Noon, every Saturday throughout the spring and summer in the parking lot at 35 South Spanish Street.
