From USA TODAY Network and wire reports Alabama Orange Beach: Beach season is heating up, and the coastal region is getting federal money to help recover from tourism losses caused by the pandemic. The Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration said Thursday that it will provide the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau with $800,000 for a marketing program. The money will be combined with $200,000 in local funding. The agency is helping communities nationwide implement programs to counter economic hardships amid the pandemic, said Dennis Alvord, acting assistant secretary for economic development. “This investment will fund a strategic, multi-faceted marketing campaign designed to attract visitors to the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area, resulting in continuous economic growth and job creation,” he said in a statement. Indiana go-kart race, festival return Associated Press ELKHART, Ind. A northern Indiana city is bringing back a summer festival built around go-kart racing a year after the family oriented event was canceled by the novel coronavirus pandemic. Elkhart officials announced the Thor Industries Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix will return Aug. 13 and 14, with go-kart racing along city streets, live music, fireworks and other events. The race will be hosted in collaboration with U.S. Auto Club Karting and will this year include a redeveloped park between the front stretch and the pit area, The Elkhart Truth reported. Mayor Rod Roberson said he and other city officials are “thrilled” by the race s return after a pandemic time-out.

Elkhart Grand Prix returns this summer By: Maura Johnson ELKHART, Ind. – USAC Karting’s Thor Industries Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix will return to the city on August 13 and 14. “We are thrilled to welcome back the Grand Prix to Downtown Elkhart,” said Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson. “USAC has been a great partner and as we come out of COVID, whatever this virus looks like in our community come August, we know USAC will ensure the Elkhart Grand Prix is a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.” The event begins Friday, August 13 with practice, qualifying, and special events as well as the first of two free nights of concerts.
