DeSoto has been teaching for 20 years and currently teaches multiple advanced placement courses. She is also a coordinator for the K-12th grade REACH program. She also is the director of the Gardiner Regional Middle School drama program and even runs a school food pantry .
Many of her students refer to her as Momma D a name she wears with pride as she loves cook for her students and brings yummy items to class.
DeSoto has embraced many of the challenges that being a teacher brings but has developed a deep love for the profession.

GARDINER – May 11, 2021, Jennie M. Breed, 95, of Plaisted Street in Gardiner passed away at her home on May 11, 2021 after a lengthy period of declining health.Jennie was born in Gardiner on Sept, 15, 1925, the daughter of George A. Atkins and Esther (Pushard) Atkins. She attended Gardiner area schools and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1942. Upon graduation she began employment with the State of Maine where she worked for the Department of Health and Welfare, the Bureau of Taxation and finally with the Secretary of State-Division of Motor Vehicles. At the time of her retirement in 1988 she was the Assistant Secretary of State for Driver License Exams.Jennie married Harlan J. Breed on Nov. 7, 1947 in Gardiner. Harlan passed away on Oct. 25, 1982. Jennie was an active member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Chu
