SME Foundation needs to be provided a specific budgetary allocation each year to ensure that entrepreneurs get easy access to finance, speakers told a webinar yesterday. To implement various plans, including the SME (small and medium enterprise) policy, a five-year strategic plan is required, said Managing Director Md Mafizur Rahman.
The webinar was jointly organised by SME Foundation and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (Unido) marking Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day 2021 yesterday.

Humayun mourns death of noted economist Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled

today expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of noted economist and
former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled.
In a condolence message, the minister prayed for eternal peace of the
departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Khaled breathed his last at 5.45am at the intensive care unit of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in the city,
family sources said.
COVID-19 positive on February 1.
Later, he was transferred to the BSMMU as Khaled was diagnosed with
different complications, including pneumonia.

The productivity in all sectors of Bangladesh will increase from the current 3.8 percent to 5.6 percent by 2030 in line with a government master plan, said Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun. Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and Bangladesh s National Productivity Organization (NPO) have formulated a master plan for 2021-2030 period, said the minister while attending virtual inauguration ceremony of the 60th anniversary of APO on Thursday.
NPO s general secretary Dr. Dr. AKP Mochtan, Director of APO of Japan (Assistant Minister and Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan) Atsushi Ueno and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam Lee Xuan Dinh spoke on the occasion.
