BELGRADE Hammond Lumber Co. has been awarded the National Safety Council’s 2020 Industry Leader Award in four of its branches for outstanding safety.
The award goes to the top 5% of NSC member companies, units and facilities that have qualified for the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award based on 2019 safety data. Winners are selected based on NAICS code, lowest total incident rate and employee work hours. Hammond’s Belgrade, Damariscotta, Farmington and Machias branches recognized as NSC Industry Leaders for no lost-time accidents last year are a reflection of the company’s emphasis on safety.
In Belgrade, Hammond’s headquarters, that branch has twice won the NSC’s Million Work Hours Award after going more than one million consecutive hours without a job-related injury or illness that resulted in lost time.

SHIRO â Employees at Tenaska Frontier Generating Station have been honored with four National Safety Council (NSC) awards for their 2019 safety performance. The plant, located near Shiro, has had zero work-related injuries or illnesses resulting in time away from work (lost time) since the start of commercial operation in 2000 â an achievement 20 years in the making.
âReaching this impressive safety milestone takes decades of hard work, diligence and a continuous commitment to safety in the workplace,â said Todd Jonas, senior vice president, operations. âThe employees at Tenaska Frontier have maintained that focus for the past 20 years. Thatâs an impressive record.â
