(Des Moines, IA) The City of Des Moines is re-instating a mask mandate in city buildings. City Manager Scott Sanders says it s because of increased COVID cases in Polk County. The policy is for both staff and visitors and those attending public meetings, boards and commissions.
“As the Administrator of public facilities, we’re requiring masks inside those facilities because the trends are disturbing and we need to keep our employees and residents healthy and safe inside our buildings,” Sanders said.

The city of West Des Moines will have to wait two more weeks to vote on terminating its current contract with a Des Moines-based security firm, The Conley Group, after investigating concerning comments made by the firm s CEO.
An internal investigation was launched by West Des Moines city officials on July 21 after a Des Moines Register investigation revealed that Tom Conley, the company s CEO, wrote in emails to Des Moines city officials that participants in racial justice protests last year engaged in terrorism and also referred to members of the central Iowa-based Black Liberation Movement as little sissy b on his Facebook page.
