Two longtime Los Altos High School educators have been appointed to newly created district-level roles, as part of an administrative reorganization in the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District. LAHS Assistant Principal Perla Pasallo will become the director of student services and equity, while teacher Michelle Bissonnette will serve as community outreach specialist. Both start their new positions in July. As director of student services and equity, Pasallo will oversee a range of areas focused on supporting students, including the special-education department, English Learner program, academic counselors and the district’s equity initiatives. According to Superintendent Nellie Meyer, the idea was to bring all the programs together

It may be April, but today felt like the first day of school in many ways at local high schools, complete with freshmen trying to find their way around campus and teachers helping kids get acclimated to being back in the classroom. The Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District is resuming in-person lessons this week for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic shuttered campuses last March.

Parents push MVLA for broader reopening plan MVLA is planning to bring students back using a hybrid schedule, above, starting in mid-April. The Mountain View Los Altos Union High School laid out its plan to resume in-person classes in mid-April at a board of trustees study session Monday (March 8), but parents and students who called into the virtual meeting largely urged the district to bring kids back sooner and for longer periods of time. The district and teachers’ union announced a deal last week that would have teachers return to campus April 19 to lead in-person lessons in a hybrid model. Under the plan, a student would be on campus starting April 22 for two half-days a week. The rest of the time, students would continue remote learning.
