Helgi Tomasson, the longtime artistic director and chief choreographer of San Francisco Ballet, announced his intention to retire from the dance company in 2022. Here is a chronology of his life and career:
1942: Helgi Tomasson born Oct. 8, in Reykjavik, Iceland.
1957: At age 15, Tomasson begins his professional career with the celebrated Pantomime Theatre in Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens.
