Pictured here - mouldy silage which was tested and found to contain a mycotoxin produced by the fungi penicillium roqueforti INVESTIGATIONS ARE underway into the case of a dairy farm in the north of England which was forced to shut down over concerns that a product wrongly sold as liquid fertiliser contaminated the land and led to the loss of an entire herd of cattle. The Environment Agency confirmed that they were made aware of this case in January 2021 and are now looking into spring water, soil, milk and silage samples provided to them by the farmer involved.

The animal welfare charity has issued a call to action, urging candidates to commit to improving the welfare of pets, wildlife, and farm animals nationwide. The manifesto states that transporting livestock ‘on-the-hoof’ over long distances can cause ‘unnecessary suffering,’ with the charity calling for a ban on live animal exports when for fattening or slaughter.
