21 policemen injured in Brahmanbaria road accident Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Twenty-one policemen and two drivers were injured when a bus collided with two pick-up vans in Brahmanbaria this morning. The injured policemen include two inspectors – Md Mokbul Hossain and Md Belayet Hossain, Assistant Sub-Inspector Johirul Islam and 18 constables. The accident took place around 8:00am on Cumilla-Sylhet highway at West Medda Markazpara in the town when a bus coming from Dhaka collided with the pick-up vans, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Roish Uddin told our local correspondent. All the injured policemen who were on the pick-up vans were going to Brahmanbaria from Kishoreganj. They were deployed to carry out special duties to maintain law and order situation after Hefajat-e Islam mayhem in Brahmanbaria for three days from March 26 to 28.

Suddenly, the tower broke and collapsed on the ground, leaving Sohag Sarkar dead on the spot. Sumon died on the way to the hospital, confirmed Tongi East Police Sub-Inspector Sheikh Sajal Hossain.

The launching girder (special type of gantry crane used for bridge construction) collapsed around 10:35am near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Confirming the incident, Shafiqul Islam, managing director of Dhaka Bus Rapid Transit Company Limited, said that the workers were on duty when the accident happened.

The identities of the injured persons have not been ascertained yet. Shortly after the accident, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped people and sent them to hospitals, Shafikul Islam, an official of Kurmitola Fire Service Station, told IANS.
