A flag that s flown over cemeteries in Europe where Americans killed in The Great War are buried has been raised again over Pershing Park in Washington, the new home of the National World War I Memorial.

(WASHINGTON) A flag that s flown over cemeteries in Europe where Americans killed in The Great War are buried has been raised again over Pershing Park in Washington, the new home of the National World War I Memorial.
Located on Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House, the memorial was unveiled Friday in a virtual ceremony, opens to the public beginning Saturday, and marks the last of the major American wars to have a place of honor and remembrance in the nation s capital.
President Joe Biden, in remarks recorded for the virtual ceremony, honored the 4.7 million Americans who served in what at the time was called The Great War, the first conflict on a world-wide scale.

Perhaps you too were shocked by the booming sound of jets flying over DC around 11:10 AM Friday morning. The planes were participating in a flyover during a ceremony commemorating the opening of the National World War I Memorial in Pershing Park.
The pilots performing the fly-by through northwest DC are members of the 94th Fighter Squadron, a unit recognized for their success during WWI. Joe Lowry, who serves as the House of Representatives’ director of emergency preparedness, tweeted that the two planes were F-22 Raptors.
