North-east s Katie Taylor secures place at National Youth Dance Company of Scotland

© Katie Taylor Katie Taylor. A talented young dancer from the north-east has won a place in a prestigious dance company. Katie Taylor, from Alford, has been selected for a slot in the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland – the flagship contemporary dance company for the nation’s exceptional young dancers. YDance formed the leading company for exceptional young dancers aged 16 to 21 in 2012. The company works with artistic director Anna Kenrick to explore, create and perform new work. Katie, who is in her third year of study at Gray’s School of Art, was chosen by YDance after an online audition process which saw 30 of Scotland’s most talented young dancers apply for one of 12 spaces.

She started dancing when she was four before attending the Shetland Community School of Ballet. 8 of 14Adverts Briggs is now studying dance and drama at Performing Arts Studio Scotland in Edinburgh. “I wanted to join NYDCS as it was clear how much ownership and genuine love previous company members had for the company and their time together,” she said. “There is a clear supportive ethos that encourages creative risk taking and something so exciting about people from all over the country coming together for the sake of moving in new ways and making new art.” Briggs will now join 11 other dancers to work with Anna Kenrick over the coming months. Sessions will initially take place online and follow Covid guidelines.
