When Tarah Fedenia learned she was one of five educators in Wisconsin presented with the 2022 Wisconsin Teachers of the Year Award by the state Department of Public Instruction, she did not see it coming.
First, Fedenia, a bilingual speech and language pathologist at Poplar Creek Elementary School in New Berlin, was told by her principal, Matt Stempniewski, that she was selected to be on a Zoom call last week with departing state superintendent Carolyn Stanford-Taylor and that the state had selected its Herb Kohl Educational Foundation s Teacher Fellowship Program award winners.
It wasn t until the end of the call that she was told she was being named a teacher of the year.

Urtubey, an educator for 11 years, teaches at Kermit R.
