GREENSBURG – At approximately 10:55 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021, the Decatur County Communications Center received a report of a two-vehicle accident on N State Road 3 at the intersection of County Road 650 N. The accident was initially reported as a pick-up truck that was under a semi-tractor and trailer. Decatur County Sheriff’s Deputies responded.
When deputies arrived, two female occupants of the pickup truck involved were sitting on the ground outside of the vehicle. The driver of the semi-truck involved, Samuel Wiseman (Greensburg), had assisted both females out of the truck. The driver of the pick-up truck, Devin Jones, age 29 of Greensburg, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passengers of the pick-up truck, Jennifer Sorenson, age 24 of Rushville, and Kelsey Straughn, age 27 of St. Ann, Missouri, were both flown to hospitals in the Indianapolis area by Statflight.

DECATUR COUNTY - An Alexandria woman died as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident over the holiday weekend.
According to a release from the Decatur County Sheriff s Office, at approximately 9:54 a.m. Friday, July 3, the Decatur County Communications Center received a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Ind. 3 near CR 800 W.
Deputies Robert Goodfellow and Patrick Richards along with Westport Town Marshal Joe Talkington responded.
When deputies arrived, members of the Westport Volunteer Fire Department were already on the scene providing emergency medical attention to Stephanie Freeman, 60, of Alexandria, who was unconscious.
Witnesses advised Freeman was southbound on Ind. 3 when her motorcycle left the roadway and slid into a ditch while negotiating a curve.

GREENSBURG – The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office has released details regarding multiple arrests made in late April.
According to a news release received by the Daily News, at approximately 1 p.m. April 28 the Sheriff’s Department, with the assistance of the Greensburg Police Department and the Decatur County Probation Department, served two search warrants, simultaneously, leading to the arrest of multiple individuals.
The search warrant executed at an undisclosed address in Greensburg led to the arrest of Jeremy Collins, 33, on a preliminary charge of carrying a handgun without a license, a class A misdemeanor.
Kurtis Cupp, 24, was also arrested at this address on a preliminary charge of carrying a handgun without a license, a class A misdemeanor, and a subsequent charge of trafficking with an inmate, a level 5 felony.
DECATUR COUNTY – A local man has been arrested on multiple charges.
According to information made public by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:50 p.m. Sunday the Decatur County Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call about a protective order violation occurring in the 3500 block of CR 60 SW. I
t was reported that registered sex offender William Joseph Zapfe was attempting contact with a female who had a protective order against him, had made entry into the home, and was physically attacking the female.
The suspect was still inside the home when deputies arrived. After ensuring that the female and children inside the residence were safe and secured, units requested assistance from the Greensburg Police Department to attempt to take the male into custody.
